The School of Engineering at High Point University is currently seeking a full-time Assistant/Associate Professor of Artificial Intelligence/Data Science or Computer Science. We seek a creative, dynamic individual to play a critical role in the development of innovative, active learning classes and laboratories, and to contribute to ABET accreditation for both Computer Science and Data Science programs.

The successful candidate will teach a variety of core courses within the Cybersecurity, Computer Science, and/or Data Science programs. Additional expectations include academic advising, assisting the department with program assessment, administrative work, serving on college and university-wide committees. Faculty are required to continue professional development in accordance with university expectations. Faculty appointments are for a nine-month contract period with a normal teaching load of 12 credit hours per semester.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education

Candidates must have an earned  Ph.D. or doctorate in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, or a closely related field. While all areas of specialty within these fields are desirable, of particular interest is an ability to teach a range of cybersecurity and computer science topics.

Knowledge, Skills, Ability:

The successful candidate should have demonstrated promise of excellence in teaching, a record of scholarly achievement, an entrepreneurial spirit and an interest in working with highly motivated undergraduate students. While it is anticipated that this position will be filled at the Assistant Professor level, highly qualified applicants will be considered for higher ranks. The success of our undergraduate students is our primary focus.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach 24 contact hours (typically 6) classes per year
  • Advise students
  • Assess, assist, and guide adjunct faculty under the direction of the department chair
  • Assist with curriculum development
  • Assist with academic program reviews
  • Assist with university recruiting efforts
  • Undertake professional development and produce scholarly research
  • Teach undergraduate courses as assigned
  • Participate in department, college, and university meetings and committees
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Department Chairperson and/or Dean
