As the Lead IAM Engineer, you will be the technical anchor of the engineering team, responsible for designing and owning the application architecture to meet both functional and non-functional needs. You'll drive architectural changes to accelerate development and improve service quality, leveraging your deep technical expertise to empower the team as a "force multiplier." While leading the charge, you will also contribute hands-on, shaping Target's authentication and authorization landscape through standards-based solutions and Agile methodologies.

In this role, you'll lead key initiatives to safeguard user identities and ensure secure, seamless digital experiences. Your responsibilities will evolve with the business and technology, positioning you as a thought leader in Target's IAM strategy, driving both innovation and security at scale.

 

Responsibilities of the Role:

  • Drive architectural changes to enhance authentication and authorization systems.

  • Design and build high-throughput, low-latency IAM platforms.

  • Implement Continuous Delivery solutions to optimize deployment models.

  • Enable data-driven decisions by developing real-time authentication analytics.

  • Use Agile practices to rapidly prototype and deliver customer solutions.

  • Build distributed IAM systems that impact both Target.com and in-store experiences.

  • Design new testing methods and resolve technical issues with minimal assistance.

  • Demonstrate strong proficiency in core development platforms within your domain.

  • Foster team commitment to key priorities and collaborative efforts.

  • Understand and anticipate the impact of your work on the team and guests.

  • Write organized, efficient code across multiple languages and paradigms.

  • Deliver secure, scalable, and high-performance solutions with wide-reaching impact.

  • Influence and apply data standards, policies, and best practices.

  • Stay up to date with evolving technologies through formal and self-directed learning.

  • Demonstrate expertise in Target’s technology stack and competitive landscape.

About You 

  • 4-year degree or equivalent experience 

  • 7+ years of software development experience with at least one full cycle implementation 

  • Ability to leverage open-source frameworks and Industry standards to develop solutions  

  • Knowledgeable on SAML and OAuth  

  • Skilled in writing high quality code in Java and/or Golang

  • Experience with Agile methodologies and Continuous Delivery practices (CI/CD and TDD)  

  • Proficient in Release Automation and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools, including Vela, Ansible, Terraform, Artifactory, and Git, to streamline deployment and infrastructure management.

  • Experience with cloud technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes or Spinnaker is a plus  

  • Working knowledge on package-specific configuration and deployment along with ability to build custom solutions

This position will operate as a Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement based on Target’s needs. A Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement means the team member’s core role will need to be performed both onsite at the Target HQ MN location the role is assigned to and virtually, depending upon what your role, team and tasks require for that day.
