Position Title: IT Support Specialist

Department:  Technology

Reports to: Technology Manager

Pay Class: Full-time Regular

FLSA Status: Hourly, Non-Exempt         

 

Position Summary

Pacific Science Center’s mission is to ignite curiosity in every child and fuel a passion for discovery, experimentation and critical thinking in all of us. PacSci is proud to serve our community with innovative informal science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education resources including digital content and in-person experiences. We are looking for an approachable problem-solver to join our amazing IT Support team. The IT Support Specialist position will provide technical assistance and support related to computer systems, hardware, and software.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities    

  • Serve as the first point of contact for technical assistance with hardware, software, and phones
  • Install, configure, and maintain hardware and software components  
  • Troubleshoot devices and systems, hardware, and software.
  • Document system performance, bugs, debugging, and program requirements. Keep documentation up to date and accurate
  • Ensure software licensing is documented and within compliance  
  • Onboarding new staff by creating accounts, supplying technology needs, and train users in the proper use of hardware or software  
  • Install and troubleshoot conference room equipment
  • Manage vendor relations for phones, printers, computers, and equipment
  • Maintain a solid working knowledge of PacSci networking components for troubleshooting network related problems.
  • Ensure computers are secure and protected using software 
  • Enforce IT policies related to keeping staff accounts and computers safe.
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Position Requirements: Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Current computer hardware technology, business software, and MS & Mac Operating Systems, in a business environment
  • And understanding IT and network concepts such as, DNS, DHCP, and TCP/IP
  • Microsoft Active Directory and Azure Active Directory, including user accounts, Group Policies, Intune, support, and administration.
  • Onsite and Cloud based Microsoft Systems such as Office365, SharePoint, Teams, Teams phones, Print Servers, File servers.

Skills:

  • Efficiently and independently diagnosing both hardware and software problems
  • Excellent face-to-face communication skills, especially when explaining technical details to non-technical customers such as training non-technical staffhow to use software.
  • Making and testing network cables
  • Working knowledge of basic hand and power tools
  • Sourcing parts and building computers from scratch

Ability to:

  • Be customer service-oriented problem solver who can work with employees and customers of all computer skill levels
  • Calmly and quickly solve IT problems in stressful, high impact situations
  • Work independently
  • Effectively manage time, organize, and prioritize
  • Approach work with a demonstrated commitment to Inclusivity, Diversity, Equity, and Access
  • Work outside of normal hours occasionally for things like events, software or hardware installations and IT emergencies
  • Work onsite, 5 days/week  

 

Qualifications

Required

  • 1-2 years technical support experience including hands-on hardware repair

Preferred           

  • 2 years of experience in a similar role
  • Certification, Associate, or Bachelor’s degree in computer science or engineering or related field

Compensation

Pay is based on several factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and years of experience.

Starting Base Salary Range: $32.00 - 36.00 / hourly

In addition to base salary, regular employees working 40 hrs/week can expect the following benefits:
